Caring for Your Art

Routine Care: The primary goal is to prevent the buildup of dust and oils. Regularly and gently dust your sculpture with a clean, dry, and soft microfiber cloth. This is often all that is needed to maintain its appearance. Avoid household cleaners, ammonia-based products, or abrasive powders, as these can strip the protective wax layer and damage the underlying patina.

About Patina: Bronze is a living material that naturally develops a patina over time—a subtle darkening and color change that is highly desirable among collectors. This finish adds depth, character, and a sense of history to the piece. We strongly advise against attempting to remove it. If you prefer a high-shine finish, this is a personal choice, but please use only a high-quality wax or polish specifically formulated for bronze, applying it sparingly according to the product's directions.

Understanding the Material: Marble is a porous stone, meaning it can absorb liquids, which can lead to staining. For routine dusting, use a soft, dry cloth. For cleaning, slightly dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled or pH-neutral water, wipe the surface gently, and immediately dry with a separate clean cloth to prevent water spots. Never leave moisture to sit on the surface.

What to Avoid: The most critical rule is to avoid all acidic substances. This includes common household items like vinegar, lemon juice, wine, coffee, and harsh chemical cleaners. These will etch the surface, creating a permanent dull spot. We highly recommend using coasters if you ever intend to place anything on a flat marble base, as this prevents condensation rings and potential stains from forming.

Gentle Handling: These materials, while durable, are susceptible to chipping and cracking from impact. Always handle pieces with clean, dry hands, and be sure to support the main body from its base, not by a delicate extremity. For dusting, a feather duster or a soft-bristled artist's brush is ideal for getting into fine details without applying pressure. You can also use canned air, holding it at a safe distance to blow away dust.

Cleaning and Environment: For a more thorough cleaning, use a soft cloth with a very small amount of mild, pH-neutral soap in lukewarm water. "Rinse" with a separate, clean damp cloth, and dry thoroughly. Avoid sudden and extreme temperature changes (e.g., moving from a cold room into hot sunlight), as this can cause thermal shock, leading to microscopic cracks in the glaze or body.

Caring for Resin: Keep resin pieces out of direct, prolonged sunlight, as UV radiation can cause colors to fade and may lead to yellowing or brittleness over many years. For cleaning, a simple wipe-down with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth is sufficient. Avoid using solvents or harsh alcohol-based cleaners, as they can cloud or damage the protective top coat of the figurine.

Caring for Wood: Wood is a natural material that can react to its environment. Maintain a stable humidity level to prevent swelling or shrinking. Dust regularly with a soft cloth. To maintain its natural luster and protect the surface, you can occasionally (once or twice a year) apply a high-quality, non-silicone furniture paste wax with a clean cloth, let it sit as directed, and buff it off gently.

Preventing Smudges: Glass is highly susceptible to fingerprints and smudges from the natural oils on skin. When possible, handle glass elements with soft cotton gloves or by using a clean microfiber cloth. This will significantly reduce the need for cleaning. For dusting, a clean microfiber cloth is superior, as it traps dust without leaving lint behind.

Effective Cleaning: For removing stubborn fingerprints, spray a small amount of high-quality glass cleaner or a solution of 50/50 distilled water and isopropyl alcohol onto a clean microfiber cloth—never spray directly onto the sculpture. Gently wipe the surface in one direction to avoid streaks. Be especially careful around joints where glass meets other materials like metal or stone.

Safe Handling: The number one rule for handling any piece of art is to always use two hands and lift from its most stable and solid point, which is typically the base. Never lift a sculpture by a fragile, protruding element like an arm, wing, or tail. Before moving, clear a path and prepare the new spot where it will be placed.

Optimal Placement: Choose a location that is stable, level, and free from heavy vibrations (e.g., away from large speakers, rattling windows, or slamming doors). Avoid high-traffic areas where it might be accidentally bumped or knocked over. A dedicated shelf, pedestal, or mantlepiece is ideal. Maintaining a consistent, moderate temperature and humidity level will benefit all materials and ensure the long-term preservation of your entire collection.
